The Third in the series of our
Anniversary Events
-November 17th, at
5:00 pm-
Come and
join us for another of our 50th Anniversary Events with a
lecture given by Professor Leonard Rome on nanotechnology, followed by a
reception.
Details about the
lecture:
Nano Nano Nano: How
Nanotechnology is Changing Medicine
Nanotechnology involves
manipulating structures at the nanometer length scale - one billionth of
a meter. One area of nanotechnology that holds the promise of providing
great benefits for society in the future is in medicine. Nanomedicine
will create tools that will permit intervention at the cellular and
molecular level. Nanomedicine is already being used as the basis for
new, more effective drug delivery systems and is in early development as
scaffolding for strengthening bone and regenerating nerves. The Alliance
for Nanotechnology in Cancer has been created by the National Cancer
Institute so that investments in nanomedicine can lead to breakthroughs
in detecting, diagnosing, and treating various forms of cancer. This
lecture will explore the emerging field of nanomedicine and describe
some of the research taking place at UCLA's California NanoSystems
Institute.
RSVP not required but would be appreciated.
Please call the office at (310) 825-0877 for reservations.
